"Give us access to the computers on your runabout" "Now, now sir there is no need to be so aggressive-I warn you we are permitted to respond with force" C'Nell looked to his right and noticed Tesha was already reaching for her cricket phaser, he was confident they could manage it. The first man rushed forward attempting to push C'Nell aside, but the Vulcan responded with a Martial artists swiftness, and executed a Nerve Pinch; it was a fast strike so it was unsurprising that the man yelled out-it would also not keep him down for long. A second man had attempted to flank C'Nell, perhaps he had seen Tesha reaching for a weapon and realised (quite correctly) that she couldn't fire into her officer and he couldn't fire at such proximity to himself. What he didn't calculate was a Science officer that practices both Vulcan Suus-Mahna and Earth Judo while dating a tactical officer with an interesting choice of dates. When he grabbed C'Nell he had opened himself to a number of the earth techniques; sizing him up C'Nell realised the large man would not expect one particular throw. So he executed a practiced Yoko Tomoe Nage; a sacrifice throw which served him perfectly. NRPG: If anyone is interested the attached picture is the move C'Nell used (well he used a slight variant) He looked over to see Tesha had allready opened a stun blast on the final assailant. (Reply Tesha) "We need to get these guys somewhere where we can look after them; I suggest we "borrow" some patients of our own; perhaps we can find a way of making a temporary substitute for their addiction?" (Reply Tesha) "In any case, I need to get back into that hospital; if those Doctors are getting a Tech fill behind our backs I want to find out how they are doing it" (Reply Tesha) (Posted by Nathan) ----- (Rosenante, Main Security, Sanok, Day 1, 2231) After leaving sickbay to do research on the chip the EMH found in Dr. Scudder's head, Sanok had gone to the one place on the Rose he felt the most comfortable. Before moving up the ranks of command, 2O, FO, then CO, he had been the chief of security. It was a position that was most agreeable to him, a position he actually preferred. To do the research needed, he had gone to his old office in the main security center on deck 3. When the door slid open and Sanok entered, everyone snapped to attention upon recognizing him. These were the same people that had worked closely with him in security, just a few, short months ago. He was once their comrade, but now, he was their captain. He felt a small tinge of regret inside. After instructing everyone to be at ease, Sanok had explained the situation to them. Showing them the information the EMH had discovered, he set his old team to work. They dived into it with their expected efficiency. For Sanok, it felt most agreeable to be there again. =^=EMH to Captain Sanok. Dr. Scudder has regained consciousness and is asking for you.=^= "I will be there shortly," said Sanok. He stood. "Contact me as soon as you find what we need." "Aye, sir." (posted by Bob B.) ----- (Yora City Hospital, Nolar, Day 1, 2232) At his superior request, Nolar moved to the runabouts on the Hospital roof to get the materials he needed to pirate their security network. Arriving on the roof, he realized the situation had changed drastically. It was more than just a crowd protesting and making request. It was a riot....almost a Revolution. From the roof, Nolar had a very good view. Things weren't looking good. The pirating stuff could wait. What they needed is to prevent a complete take over. He opened a communication with Lieutenant Jackson. "Sir, from the Hospital roof, the situation look very bad. All our men are overwhelmed by the Yorans. I would recommend we fall back to the Hospital." Gan said. "Keep the healthy people in, and the insane out!" he added to emphasis the irony. (Reply Jackson) "We could protect the Hospital using force fields. I told everyone they were going to be handy. With the power provided by one of the shuttle, we have the power necessary to erect several. We could also replicate boiling oil. It is always a good way to get people away from the walls." Gan suggested. (Reply Jackson) "Sir. It's gonna buy us some time, but what are we going to do with that time? Are we leaving, or are we still trying to save people who doesn't deserve to be helped?" Gan then asked. (Reply Jackson) (Posted by Nick) ----- (Yora City Hospital, Tesha, Day 1, 2233) C'Nell turned to face the men and began to calmly speak to them, though he was firm in his stance. It was the right thing to do, but Tesha realized it was likely to fail. Those men were fighting a painful psychological addiction. Reason was the last thing they would hear. Sure enough, at seeing they weren't getting access to the runabouts, they tried to force their way. A quick nerve pinch and a judo through Tesha would never have expected, and there was one man left for her. A stun shot from her phaser, and all three were out. "We need to get these guys somewhere where we can look after them," said C'nell. "I suggest we 'borrow' some patients of our own. Perhaps we can find a way of making a temporary substitute for their addiction?" "Based on what I got from my readings," said Tesha, "I'm thinking all it would take to give these men their fix, is exactly what they wanted from us in the first place." She shrugged. "They're addicted to their tech, so it's logical..." her antennae wiggled in a gesture of mirth, "...that we give them some tech. They didn't intend to harm us. They just wanted to interface with our computer. It would stimulate the part of the brain causing the addiction. Maybe that's really all we need to do for all of them, sir." "In any case," said C'Nell, "I need to get back into that hospital. If those doctors are getting a tech fill behind our backs, I want to find out how they are doing it." "Ensign C'Nell, sir. I don't think they're doing anything behind our backs. It's normal for the people to be connected to their cyber network. That's what the people in this culture do. Since the hospital has emergency power, they're still able to be connected, so they're not suffering from withdrawal." Tesha shrugged again. "Getting the power back on is still the best thing we can do to end the suffering. After that, it's up to the Yorans how they run their world and their lives." (reply C'Nell) (posted by Bob B.) ----- (Yora City Hospital, C'Nell, Day 1, 2235) ""Ensign C'Nell, sir. I don't think they're doing anything behind our backs. "Getting the power back on is still the best thing we can do to end the suffering. After that, it's up to the Yorans how they run their world and their lives." "Perhaps that is logical? but is it right to allow the people to continue something harmful for them. The Prime Directive exists to prevent us changing culture but this one is quite aware of spacetravel so this should not apply. Whatever the outcome, I shall certainly be submitting a report about their addictions" C'Nell tapped his combadge "C'Nell to away team-me and Tesha have been held up; we need to regroup. Please Acknowledge" (Reply any in away team) C'Nell turned around, noticing Tesha wasn't there anymore he soon saw her, in the arms of a brutish Yoran much taller and stronger than either of them. He sad Tesha's phaser in his hand. (Reply Tesha) The Yoran put his hand over her mouth to shut her up. "Ill break her antennae if you don't do what she said and give us some tech!" "Please sir, calm down, we will give you what you need-" as he was trying to diffuse things the combadge response came through. the Yoran heard it-probably didnt understand it. "Whats happening? GIVE MY TECH!" before C'Nell could respond the man pushed Tesha into the bulkhead-face first. C'Nell moved forward, he fired the Phaser he had stolen and C'Nell fell backwards, unconscious. Fortuneatly the combadge channel had remained open perhaps someone would come to help? "Jess" he moaned before he passed out and the Yoran began to gather up his two hostages and headed towards the runabout. I’ll have troops at each entrance and exit to serves as a backup”. Jackson replied. Gan nodded and left for the roof. On his way, he opened a communication with all engineers present. "Nolar to all engineers, stop whatever you are doing now and meet me at our runabout.". He was the second to arrive. Another engineer was looking for a piece to help fix some of the Hospital power conduits when Nolar arrived. "What is it?" the engineer asked. "I see you have been so busy at your work you didn't realize what had happened outside. THere is a riot outside. We need to install forcefields now!" Gan replied. Gan and the other engineer took all the forcefield off the runabout storage. All forcefields had their own powersource, but those were small and wouldn't last against so many people rushing in. The longest wasn't to install the forcefields, but to direct power to each forcefield generator. Not long after, everyone arrived. Using the Runabout tactical screen, Nolar showed a plan of the Hospital. "We need to erect forcefields at all possible entrance points. The two main entrances are where we need to place the strongest forcefields. We will have two teams. Your two will take care of the main exit. I and petty officer H'ehna will take care of the main entrance. I will ask Lieutenant Jackson to find us some help to install them." Gan ordered. (Reply no one) (Posted by Nick) ----- (Yora City Hospital, Jackson, Day 1, 2239) Tom Jackson was hoping Nolar would get the force fields in place but Tom’s luck then ran out. “Ensign Signos, The rest of you fall back into the hospital. Remember use stun only when firing” yelled Tom. (Reply: any Present) As Tom beat off an attacker he yelled “No One Gets Left Behind –Understood?” (Reply: Any federation/ Yora Security personnel) Jackson and the others beat it into the hospital. He was glad Nolar and Matrix had set up a relay for the communicators using their landing caft as relays. "We are doing everything we can to remove the object from you. I am certain it is only a matter of time." Sanok paused and glanced at the EHM. It was reading a file, then it tapped its comm badge. "EMH to Ensign Kruj. Report to sickbay immediately." "Doctor?" said Sanok, one eyebrow raised. "We need all the help we can get with this, Captain, so I called someone from the science department." Sanok nodded and turned back to Scudder. "What is it you want to tell me?" (reply Scudder, Kruj) (posted by Bob B.) ----- (Rosenante, Sickbay, Kluj, Day 1, 2242) The door to the sickbay slid open. The conversation taking place between Captain Sanok and his doctor, who was now a patient of the EMH, was interrupted. Standing in the doorway was a middle-aged half-Vulcan, half-Klingon in a blue science uniform. "Ensign Kluj reporting as ordered..." He paused and added with a raised eyebrow, "...Captain." His order had come from the EMH, but to his surprise the Captain was there. (reply Sanok or Scudder, if you wish) Between the EMH, the now conscious doctor, and Captain Sanok, Kluj was filled in on the doctor's dire situation. While Kluj listened, he also looked over the medical instruments and lab test results. "Any initial theories, science officer?" Asked the EMH, expecting something along the lines of ordering more tests. Kluj scratched his goatee and after some additional thought he made his assessment. "Although I am not a medical doctor, prior to the Starfleet Academy I spent eight years in the Vulcan Science Academies. Removal of the device while it is still functional will kill him, of that there is no doubt." The EMH pressed further. "That fact has already been established, Ensign. Do you have any new ideas?" "As a science officer, I have none..." Kluj said flatly. The doctor and the captain looked somewhat disappointed at this, but Kluj continued, "...but as a Vulcan, I could attempt a joining of our minds." (reply Scudder) "Yes although a mind meld would not enable the physical destruction of the chip, the addition of this just might." Kluj pulled a d'k tahg from his belt and triggered the side blades. The Klingon knife snapped open with a clink as he held it up. "And no doctor, this is not for you...it is for me. You see my theory is simple: I will use my Vulcan half to target and isolate the chip during the mind probe...and when I give the signal, the Captain will stab me in the back with my own d'k tahg. This will trigger a Klingon battle rage which in theory could overload and destroy the chip attached to the good doctor's brain. Of course the EMH will be on hand to administer to both the doctor's and my own medical needs after the 'procedure'." Kluj held his blade in both hands and presented it to the Captain. "You have my permission to do this, but the danger of death is very real to both myself and to Doctor Scudder. I of course will also need both the doctor's permission as well as yours." (reply Scudder and Sanok) (posted by Dave) ----- (Rosenante, Sickbay, Scudder, Day 1, 2244) Paul's anxiety and throbbing head were calmed some when he heard the captain's voice. "Dr. Scudder, it is agreeable to see you awake," said Sanok. "We are doing everything we can to remove the object from you. I am certain it is only a matter of time." Paul had managed to sit up in the biobed and was now, with obvious effort, trying to swing his legs over and to the floor. He flushed with embarrassment and ultimately sank back. Sweat beaded on his neck and arms. "Captain," Paul managed. He was surprised at how much he disliked receiving his captain like this; he was normally indifferent about Starfleet's culture of officers, rank, and implied mentoring. Paul was glad when the EMH drew the captain's attention and the young doctor closed his eyes, trying to dissociate from his exhausted body and collect his thoughts. "... so I called someone from the science department," Paul heard the EMH finish and Captain Sanok turned again to him. "What is it you want to tell me?" Before Paul could respond, the door to sickbay slid open. "Ensign Kluj reporting as ordered—Captain." Paul's surprise at seeing a Klingon was undisguisable. It happened that there were no Klingons in Paul's year at the Academy, and growing up in a Vulcan community in Earth's Pakistan region gave him even less opportunity. Indeed the only Klingon Paul had ever spoken to was a violinist he'd once played piano with. Again Paul was relieved by the dogged EMH who, with the help of Sanok and a few reticent clarifications from Paul himself, immediately briefed the new science officer on the situation. Paul felt a wave of nausea coming and again tuned out the sickbay and his fellow officers, who continued discussing Paul's condition. "...but as a Vulcan, I could attempt a joining of our minds." "A mind meld?" Paul burst out, again regaining lucidity. Paul's great aunt Juriah subjected Paul to mindmelds the way others wielded sweets and cheek-pinches. "No," Paul asserted forcefully, and regaining some composure added, "A mindmeld can't physically remove the chip besides." "Yes—" Kluj agreed and, in what seemed a blur to Paul, the second Klingon he'd ever spoken to pulled a d'k tahg from his belt and triggered the side blades. As the Klingon knife snapped open with a clink Paul's face flushed and he sunk back in the biobed, Kluj not noticing he'd made the overstressed doctor pass out. The com link to the Rose was still down so there was no reliable method to transmit the information. He had to get back aboard ship. Matrix decided to take on of the runabouts back to the ship but he needed to talk with Jackson first so he made his way back to the front entrance of the hospital. He pushed his way past some of the hospital personnel that had gathered and heard people shouting. "Let us in!" Matrix didn't see the angry Yoran as he moved forward of the entrance. He caught a glimpse of something moving quickly toward him, but it was too late. The Yoran connected with Matrix's right shoulder with a makeshift club. The pain forced Matrix to drop the PADD which bounced a few meters away and disappeared into the sea of feet surrounding him. The Yorans were starting to kick him violently as he tried to roll away to escape. He managed to get on one knee with this left foot firmly on the ground and started to stand while keeping his arms and hands in front of his face. As the closest Yoran began to bring swing his weapon again, Matrix moved his left hand palm open and pushed it into the Yoran's chin as he stood up. The force was enough to push the Yoran backwards. Matrix used this momentum to push forward with his arms open. As he did so he was able to push back the four or five nearest him and caught a glimpse of the PADD on the ground. Matrix rolled his left shoulder and used his weight and leg strength and continued to move forward just enough to afford him time to grab the PADD. As he stood and turned away from the mob he heard "watch out!" from one of the hospital personnel. (Reply any, none) (Posted by Steve) ----- (Rosenante, Sickbay, EMH, Day 1, 2246) The EMH listened to the suggestion Ensign Kluj made about using a Vulcan mind meld and a Klingon battle rage to destroy the chip inside Doctor Scudder. It also observed Doctor Scudder's reaction, as well as those of Captain Sanok. Its algorithms processed the information in picoseconds, and it had a response. "Ensign Kluj, I am programmed to respect all cultures and beliefs. so please know there is no insult or malice behind what I am about to say. "I asked you here as a science officer. I felt combining the medical and science departments would give us a better chance of resolving this problem. "Secondly, though much can be achieved under a mind meld, there is no guarantee a Klingon battle rage will destroy the chip. How can we know this rage would affect only the chip and not Doctor Scudder's brain? The chip is attached to an artery. For all we know, the chip could break into pieces and cause a stroke or a brain hemorrhage, or it could tear the artery itself. Then there's the danger to you after being stabbed, and to Doctor Scudder while melded to you." The EMH looked at the captain. "I cannot allow this." The EMH studied the captain's face while he considered what was just said. Though a Vulcan, there were still physical signs the EMH could detect that gave it an indication of what the commanding officer would say. "I agree, Doctor," said Captain Sanok. "We need to find another way." (reply Scudder, Kluj) (posted by Bob B.) ----- (Rosenante, Sickbay, Kluj, Day 1, 2248) "I agree, Doctor," said Captain Sanok. "We need to find another way." Scudder looked relieved, while Kluj looked somewhat disappointed. The half-Vulcan/half-Klingon put away his d'k tagh, and responded professionally to the Captain's request. "It will be done as you have ordered, sir. Although I am quite certain that my chances for success with the mind-meld would've been greater than eighty-seven percent, I understand that the solution would not be an effective treatment for more than just the doctor. However, I also remain convinced that overloading the foreign device (without killing the patient) is the key to the safe removal of the chip. This will be the main focus as the science department studies the problem in greater detail." (reply Sanok, iyw) "I will report anything critical while the research is underway." Kluj held up the Vulcan salute and looked at both Doctor Scudder and Captain Sanok and said, "Live long, but die well." After that he exited the room to begin his scientific analysis. Jackson relayed the location of Nolar. "Good. I need to get back to the Rose with the information in this PADD. Do you need me to take back any personnel or supplies?" asked Matrix loudly over the noisy crowd. (Reply Jackson) "Very well...I'll see what we can do about this damn interference with communications as well. If nothing else I'll get word back to you or I'll be back here myself. Okay?" (Reply Jackson) "Don't take any unnecessary risks there is more going on here than I think we realize. Watch your back." Replied Matrix. Matrix made his way back to where Nolar was working. "Mister Nolar...I need a shuttle. I have to get back to the Rose immediately. Which one can I take?" asked Matrix. (Reply Nolar) "It will have to do...I guess I'll earn my salt today." (No Reply) (Posted by: Bill) ----- (Yora City Hospital, Nolar, Day 1, 2259) The two most powerful forcefield had been installed with their respective generators at the two main entrance. At least the two entrance were secured. There were however several other potential entrance points that could be used. Nolar was back on the roof to gather more stuff to install new forcefields when his superior arrived. "Mister Nolar...I need a shuttle. I have to get back to the Rose immediately. Which one can I take?" asked Matrix. Gan looked at the runabout from which a huge power conduit was coming out. It was linked to the Hospital power system. It was clear the engineer runabout couldn't be used. That left only one shuttle. "It will have to do...I guess I'll earn my salt today." Matrix said with a grin. "Your salt?"... Gan reflected on why salt could be earned. Was Human food so terrible back at the time?...He had to admit....it was bad... Gan resumed his work. With the material gathered, he went back down to install new forcefield. He found the third entrance not far from the employee private rooms. It was probably where they were coming in. He was about to drop the stuff when he heard sounds. "All of you, get out of here." said Gan. Just as he said that, people where throwing themselves on the entrance magnetic door. It wouldn't take that long for them to force their way in. "Gan to..."....Gan realized there was interference. "Find me a security officer. Find me ensign Signos. We need to repeal them. If they enter, they will take the Hospital in a matter of minutes!" As H'ehna went to look for a security officer, Gan tried to gain some time. He started to install one of the weakest, but also easiest to install. It could hold them off just long enough for the security team to arrive. (Reply any) (Posted by Nick) ----- (Yora City Hospital, Matrix, Day 1, 2303) With no shuttles available Matrix had to devise another method to get the information back to the Captain. Searching the runabouts on top of the hospital roof he pulls out a few items that might be useful. "This might work" said Matrix as he pulls a phaser rifle out of its locker and collects another PADD, a tricorder and a transport stabilizer pod. Matrix works for several minutes while sitting on the roof of the hospital. The transport pod is erected and pointed skyward as the magnetic storm rages above. The red PADD is connected to the transport pod using parts from the engineering field kit and the phaser rifle is stripped of its components. The phaser's emitter diode and focus crystal are connected to the pattern emitter on the transporter pod. Switching on the transporter stabilizer pod and adjusting the focus beam using the input from the PADD Matrix is able to transmit an infrared pulse beam skyward and a crude high band transponder. ~Good this might just work.~ thought Matrix. Connecting up the yellow PADD containing the medical and technical information he gathered from the hospital Administrator Matrix set the unit to transmit repeatedly. He sat back and hoped it would be picked up by the Rose. The forcefields Gan installed was working though and allowed to give the security team some cover. "Thanks to have come Ensign. I knew you would consider the cafeteria a priority." said Gan, liking black humor. (Reply Signos) "Neutralizing is one thing, but installing a forcefields when you are between the phasers and the crowd isn't what I like the most." he added. "She is rather busy right now. What is it?" Gan replied. (Reply any) "Ah....I see, wait...." Gan looked at the Ensign. They both understood holding the Hospital main floor was practically out of the question now. They would have to retreat. "My best forcefields are at those two entrances. If we abandon them, we may not have enough to hold the second floor. We may have time to uninstall the forcefield at the back, but that's pretty much it...and I will need cover once it is uninstall as the crowd will have it open. I still have a few others, but it's not going to hold them off....only buy us some times." Gan explained. "We will have to use other ways. Fear...we must create fear. That's the only way." (Reply Signos or any) (Posted by Nick) ----- (Yora City Hospital, Matrix, Day 1, 2315) Nolar's force fields were keeping the crowd from getting inside the main door, but some had managed to enter through offices down the corridor. Matrix moved into the main hallway as a rush of angry Yorans poured out of a few offices. They were holding chairs, books, laboratory equipment, anything they could use as a weapon. Matrix kneeled on one knee and aimed his phaser down the hallway and fired. The wide beam dropped a handful of the rioters. Still they were coming. Matrix turned and ordered the teams to move to the back of the hospital. As he did he felt a sharp pain in his left shoulder and a warm feeling down his left side. The Yoran forced a large medical instrument through his shoulder. Matrix looked briefly to notice the sharp sliver object sticking out the left side of his chest. The Yoran backed away as Matrix fired the phaser and stood up, moving away from the hallway toward the back of the hospital. "Let's go...move to the shuttles in the back lot. Move people move!" ordered Matrix. (Reply any, none) (Posted by Steve) ----- (Yora City Hospital, Matrix, Day 1, 2320) The security forces were moving Rosenante personnel to the shuttles as fast as they could. He remembered that Doctor Andersen was still being treated in the hospital, but he didn't know where. The metal object in his shoulder and chest was starting to take its toll and the blood was trickling down his shirt, arm and hand eventually leaving a trail on the floor as he moved. ~Damn it!~ thought Matrix. "Tom...Tom! Over here! I need to find Doctor Andersen and get her on one of the runabouts. Nolar should be on the roof with two of the runabouts. Get your people to the runabouts in the back lot. I'll find Andersen and get to the roof. We need to find Tesha and C'Nell too. We can't leave any of our people behind." said Matrix. (Reply Jackson) "Administrator...one of our people is still being treated here. We brought her with us when we first arrived...where is she being kept?" asked Matrix. "Your bleeding...badly." "Yes, yes I know...where is Doctor Andersen?" repeated Matrix. "Down the east hallway, first room on the left." "Can you help me get her to the roof? We have two runabouts up there and I need to get her on one and back to our ship." Said Matrix. "Of course." The two entered the room Dr. Andersen was being treated and worked to move the gurney into the hall. More Yorans were moving into the hospital now. The corridors were a mix of hospital personnel and Yoran rioters. They would have a difficult time getting through the mob and to the roof. Matrix motioned the Administrator to push the gurney back into the medical room. "Is she stable enough to get into a wheel chair?" asked Matrix. "Yes I think so." Replied the Administrator. Together they moved the Doctor into a wheel chair. Matrix grimaced as he did so. "I need to get that object out of your shoulder." Said the Administrator as he wheeled Doctor Andersen out into the corridor and across the hallway into an elevator. Matrix followed and frantically pushed the top floor button. "I'll be fine." Replied Matrix. "Commander...I don't think I will. My hospital is being overrun and I don't think I want to go back there. Can you take me with you?" the Administrator continued. Matrix conjured up a smile, "I think we can accommodate you Administrator, but what about your staff?" "During times such as these they have directives to get to the basement bunkers. We set them up years ago for outbreaks. Up until today we've not had to use them." Replied the Administrator as he looked over Matrix's wound. The elevator stopped and the door opened. Matrix had already raised his phaser in anticipation of a confrontation. None came. The roof access was devoid of any other Yorans. It was dark, but he could make out the two runabouts. Doors open and their interior lights were spilling out on the roof top. "Lieutenant Nolar!?" shouted Matrix. (Reply Nolar) "Get the runabouts ready we're getting out of here." Ordered Matrix. (Reply Nolar) (Posted by Steve) ----- (Yora City Hospital, Jackson, Day 1, 2323) A bad situation was growing e by the minute. Tom didn't really have the forces to gain total control. Hehad to quickly cme up with a solution. Steve Matrix hailed him . Tom moved quickly to hi friend's side. "What's up my friend?" He asked. (Reply: Matrix) I'll handle C'Nell and Tesha - you get the Doctor, By way you're hurt" Tom added. (Reply: Matrix) Tom signaled a couple of Security troopers and ordered "Follow Me" The hospital was starting t fill with angry Yorans. Tom and company managed to side step several small ands o rioters and reached the rear of the hospital. They emerged from the hospital and saw there shipmates on the ground incapacitated. Several Yorans were trying to access the shuttle. Tom fired a they turned at attacked his group. The three federation officers were soon engaged in a desperate hand to hand battle. Tom was knocked down by one portly attacker. The attacker paused just a split second too long. Jackson swept the feet out from under the Yoran and knocked him silly. The two Security ensigns had summarily finished their opponents off, Tom took several breaths to calm himself and barked "Secure these people" "Aye Commander"came their crisp replies. "Take a look at our people" Jackson added. The two were thankfully qualified as combat medics. There appeared to be .no serious injuries on either person. Turning to the Security officers Tom said " I'm checking the runabouts for damage secure the perimeter. Try also to contact Commander Matrix" Thy nodded and set to work, (Reply: None) (Posted by: Bill W.) ----- (Yora City Hospital, Nolar, Day 1, 2332) Gan could breathe once more. In the last twenty minutes, so much had been done and undone, he could not even recall half of them so much he had been overwhelmed. From the moment him and Signos tried to block the Yoran from entering the third entrance...to the moment the Yoran created their own entrances everywhere... He tried to recall what had happened. At 2311, he was ordered to retreat to the second floor. The option of the second floor almost immediately revealed they couldn't protect it on time, so again a decision was made around 2315 to actually move on the roof. At 2320, he met Commander Matrix at the elevator, which he was trying to block. "Lieutenant Nolar!?" shouted Matrix. "Get the runabouts ready we're getting out of here." Ordered Matrix. So finally, they wouldn't even try to keep the roof. It was a good decision, yet Gan started wondering what he would do with the materials left in the hospital. He couldn't let the Yorans have them. There was only one solution.... trigger a overload. The shuttle being on roof, all he had to do was to considerably increase the power output to the point the forcefield generators would overload. The explosion wouldn't have a high yield, yet it would be perhaps enough to scare them. Some will certainly face burning.....but the situation needed a more authoritative approach than the weak Federation one. You don't control a riot with words. It was only when Jackson arrived on the roof and mentioned air support that the idea came.... he could make it look like the Federation had triggered the explosion of charges to cause the Hospital to collapse. All he would have to do is to fire at the Hospital wall so that pieces of it would fall. With the effect of the forcefield overload, it would look like the Hospital is collapsing. So Gan went to work to prepare the shuttle for takeoff as well as prepare the forcefield overload. (Reply no one) (Posted by Nick) ----- (Rosenante, Personal Quarters, Scudder, Day 1, 2349) The doors to Paul's quarters slid closed behind him. He was glad to be out of sickbay, chip in his brain be damned. Once he had had something to eat, he had found his physical disorientation finally passed; and though he was in bad need of further rest, he needed more badly to be in a safer space—and his legs thankfully cooperated with him to do just that. He'd relayed to the Captain the symptoms of drug addiction he'd observed in the Yoran delegation and immediately requested permission from Sanok to escape from the insanity of sickbay. Not in so many words. Paul was too thinly spread to feel any embarrassment over his misinterpretation of Kruj's intentions with the sinister Klingon blade that had made him pass out. He'd foreseen some comic brain surgery. ~Not that the Klingon's actual plan was any more stomachable than my mistaken assumption,~ Paul thought. He paced in his quarters, wanting sleep but not feeling tired. He felt like he might had he slept for days, he was glad to be out of sickbay but he had too much pent-up energy now that he felt well. Decidedly he tapped his combadge. "Scudder to Captain Sanok." (reply Sanok) Paul paused, he had to decide quickly how to play this. He decided to go with something Vulcan. "Captain. Request permission to return to my duties and join the away team." Paul's tone was dry, as if the insane events of the past day had hardly warranted notice. (reply Sanok) Paul felt suddenly human again. "If I may speak freely, sir, I can't sleep and I can't abide being useless in my quarters. If I were my own patient, I'd prescribe getting my mind off it." (reply Sanok) (posted by Mark) ----- (Rosenante, Ready Room, Sanok, Day 1, 2351) While medical and science resumed working on the chip problem, Sanok had returned to his ready room to read a report sent to him from the security department. Security cams in the room where Sanok and Scudder had met with the Yoran delegation, had revealed when Scudder was infected with the chip. One of the delegates had been talking with Scudder, and when finished, touched him on the back of the head. Sanok had that man arrested and placed in a security cell. The others had been confined to quarters provided for them. Needless to say, none of that had gone over well with the Yorans, but Sanok hadn't cared. One of his people had been assaulted, and that was something one just didn't do. Research revealed more information on the Romulan design of the chip. It was definitely theirs, and it was something used to suppress telepathic and empathic abilities. Earlier models were temporary, dissolving harmlessly into the system after several hours. This new version had been improved. It still might dissolve harmlessly, but then again, it might not. It was also meant for full telepaths, so it could have damaging affects for Scudder. Medical and science needed to find a way to get it out. =^=Scudder to Captain Sanok.=^= Sanok hadn't expected a call from Scudder. He should have been resting for the night. "This is Sanok. What can I do for you, Doctor?" =^=Captain. Request permission to return to my duties and join the away team.=^= Something else that was unexpected. Of course, it was out of the question. For all they knew, the chip could burst inside Scudder's head, or it could send him into a psychopathic episode. Sanok understood his desire to be on duty, he would want to do the same, but it just wasn't the wise thing to do. "Doctor, it is admirable that you desire to join the others on Yora III, but I cannot allow that. The atmospheric interference makes it dangerous to send ships through, so I am not sending anyone else down. We need you to rest here, so when we find a way to remove the chip, we can do it immediately." Sanok didn't tell Scudder about the report they had received from Matrix about falsified medical records. There was more happening on the planet than initially known. =^=If I may speak freely, sir, I can't sleep and I can't abide being useless in my quarters. If I were my own patient, I'd prescribe getting my mind off it.=^= "Doctor, for your own good, and for the safety of the away team, I cannot allow you to go. Perhaps a light sedative to help you sleep will help." Again, Sanok understood. He would have done everything in his power to return to duty, had the roles been reversed. "We will get the chip out and you will be back on duty soon enough. I know it is not easy, but you must be patient. Rest now, and we will call you to sickbay at the appropriate time." Hopefully, that would be enough to console Doctor Scudder. (reply Scudder iyw) (posted by Bob B.) ----- (Rosenante, Science Labs, Kluj, Day 1, 2354) Kluj looked at the science lab's chronometer; it read six minutes until midnight. He had done some further analysis on the composition of device embedded in Doctor Scudder's head, and as of yet, he was unable to find a safe way to "overload" it. Unfortunately, the chip was a tiny bio-neural computer circuit, which had incorporated itself directly into his brain stem near the middle cerebral artery. ~If only the hu'tegh chip was isolinear...or better yet silicon-based.~ Kluj pondered while his analysis ran. ~An old-style electro-magnetic pulse would have taken out a silicon computer very simply, with almost no rist to the patient.~ Earlier, he had almost given up on the theory of trying to burn out the chip while it remained attached, when it had suddenly hit him...the very nature of bio-neural computers, make them prone to viruses! Perhaps rather than overload the computer they could overheat the computer by raising the victim's blood temperature, which fed into the bio-neural core itself. Of course, no common cold or flu would be able to raise the blood temperature high enough to destroy the chip. It was indeed a long-shot, and in Kluj's opinion, much more dangerous than his proposed mind-meld. Kluj was no physician, but he was adept at processing and filtering data. He had asked the computer to provide a list of known viruses, for which there were no immunizations (so the patient wouldn't automatically be immune) but there was a method or technique to halt it once the body was infected. In addition, any matching virus would have to be able to increase the victim's blood temperature over the threshold which could destroy an embedded bio-neural computer. Names of viruses danced across the screen and were quickly marked as unacceptable. **Omega IV virus** ... **Orkett's disease** ... **Phage** ... **Plasma Plague** ... **Quazulu VIII virus** As the alphabetical progression of viruses was processed, the possibilities seemed to fade. Kluj continued watching the screen for a match. **Saurian virus** ... **Tarkalean flu**, **Terothka virus**, **Thelusian flu** Suddenly there was a single hit...the Ulcartic virus? Kluj gave the computer a command, "Computer, continue analysis, and display details of the Ulcartic virus." A description and 3D-simulation of the virus appeared on the monitor, while the female computer voice spoke aloud, "The Ulcartic virus is a very deadly and very painful disease. In the past, it was sometimes used as a brutal method of execution by the Klingon empire. The virus causes the subject's internal organs to heat up, to the point where the victim's body literally boils to death." Kluj raised an eyebrow and thought, ~If the mind-meld wasn't dangerous enough, this certainly is.~ Leaving the computer to finish its task, which ultimately resulted in no other matches, Kluj contacted sickbay on his commbadge, =/\= Kluj to sickbay, I need some assistance to formulate a plan to somehow infect Doctor Scudder with the Ulcartic virus, and halt the progression of the disease prior to irreparable damage of the patient, but after the neutralization of his unwanted bio-neural guest. =/\= (reply any) (Posted by Dave) ----- (Rosenante, Personal Quarters, Scudder, Day 1, 2356) =^= I know it is not easy, but you must be patient. Rest now, and we will call you to sickbay at the appropriate time. =^= "Yes, Captain. Thank you, Captain. Scudder out." Alone again in silence, Paul frowned with disappointment and considered the Captain's suggestion of a sedative. He glanced at the analgesic biospray he'd been self-administering for his pre-existing problem with chronic headaches. "An awful lot of head trouble for a would-be counselor," he spoke aloud. He decided to wash up, and after activating the water at the sink he glanced at his reflection in the small mirror. His dark hair was tousled from his earlier collapse and bed-ridden hours in sickbay, and he needed a shave. "But that can wait until morning," he mumbled, turning one cheek and then the other in the mirror. ~A morning I'll spend hours awake waiting for.~ Decidedly, and with sudden energy, Paul prepared for a shave.
